During our stay in Vaala the participants learned a lot about affordable and clean energy. In groups the students made a model of an ego village. There was a lot to look at, e.g. the size of the village, what services would be found there and how the village would be as environmentally friendly as possible. Here are the villages:

- Magicland: Population: 300 Power source: wind power – 6 windmills – each producing enough electricity for 3000 people Heating: Underground pipes Burning trash (waste management) Food sources: Fishing from the lake Food from greenhouse and field Sheep herding at the mountain. - Bywood: -High Density -Low Carbon -Public services -Walkable -Lots of jobs Made by: Almar, Jorne, Pinja, Veikka and Watcharee.

- The eco village Dönna: A small, modern community housing around 1500 residents. Everything is built around the hydro power plant supplying energy to the village. Alternatives for currently problematic materials Heavy forestry work, supplying materials for the nearby mill. A gas station supplying chargers for eletric cars, and hydrogen for hydrogen-powered ones. The purpose is to show how little we need change to transition into a more economical way of living. - Skittles Kunta: – The town has a population of 2200 people – It is powered by wind and solar energy. – It gets it food from the potato and flour field and its cow, chicken and sheep farms. The towns gets it‘s fertilizer from toilet waste that has been processed. The town is heated by burning bio waste, the rest is recycled and what cant‘t be recycled is later incenrated. - Tuulijoki: -Built around a river called Pussijoki. -The town is split in two parts. -All the necessities that a village needs. -All education in one building like in Vaala. -We BURN our trash. -The water supply comes from the river. -The main energy producer are the windmills and the hydropower plant.
