Mateja Nikoletić
Hello everyone, my name is Mateja Nikoletic I’m 18 years old and I’m from Serbia, but I moved to Iceland in 2016. I live in a small town on south-east side of Iceland, the towns name is Höfn. I Live with my parents; we don’t have any pets. I have one older brother, who also lives in Höfn with his wife. In my free time I like to hang out with my friends, go to gym, play videogames, go for a ride, chill on my phone, and make a really bad joke. What I don’t like to do in my free time is study for school, but I like learning new stuff XD. I work at the fast-food restaurant called Hafnarbúðin.
I joined this class because my friend made me, and I would like to travel somewhere other then Iceland or Serbia. This would not be my first time working on a project like this (about global warming and stuff like that).
Steinar Logi Hafsteinsson
H!
My name is Steinar Logi Hafsteinsson and I am 17 years old. My birthday is on the 9th of July and I was born in the year 2004. I live in a small town called Höfn. I go to a school there called Framhaldsskólinn í Austur-Skaftafellssýslu, in short FAS.
I still live with my parents which is not too weird, my mom works at a construction product market and my dad works as a fisherman. I have two brothers they both live away from home.
I am originally from a smaller town called Djúpivogur. I am a football/soccer fan. The team I support is called Wolves and I can talk about football for a very long. Even though I like talking about it I don’t play football. I also like playing video games, but I am not competitive though I like competitive games I just like playing them for fun.
I have had a couple of jobs throughout my young life. The first job I had was at a grocery store called Netto. After working at Netto a restaurant offered me a job as a dishwasher. Last summer I worked at a fish factory in the town, but I didn’t like that job. I had to wake up at 6 in the morning and work to 15:00 or 17:00. Now I work again as a dishwasher, it is a part time job with school.
Sævar Rafn Gunnlaugsson
My name is Sævar Rafn Gunnlaugsson, but I’m just called Sævar. I am 17 years old. My hobbies are learning, nature and stories (aka movies, tv, etc). I have a mom and a dad and two younger brothers. My mom is manager at a restaurant and my dad controls all road repair on a part of a part of the ring road. Both of my brothers are still in schools.
My hope for the future of nature is that I can take my future children to the same places in nature without us having destroyed them through mining, global warming melting the polar ice caps and the glaciers, plastic, oil spills and more. I also hope that most of the animal species and ecosystems are alive and intact. Which is starting to look unlikely due to the acidity of the oceans rising which is destroying the coral reefs. The high amount of plastic in the ocean and oil spills. The polar ice caps and glaciers melting devastating the animals that reliant on them. Then the rising sea levels will also be changing costal ecosystems for the worse. Ecosystems are also being badly hurt by deforestation. And many rivers, ocean and lake ecosystems which are being badly damaged by poor human wasted management. The faster evaporation of water which is especially hurting deserts that badly need that water.
Ecosystems are also being destroyed by human mining and manufacturing and building. All these reasons and more is why what is happing to the planet now is being called a mass extinction be many. This is something I think needs to be fixed by government putting a really high number regulations for companies especially the larger once since that would help more than any one person or group action.
Birkir Snær Ingólfsson
Hi – my name is Birkir Snær Ingólfsson and im a 17 year old boy from Höfn. I live with my parents, 4 siblings and cat. My father works as an electrician and my mother works in the town hall. I have one brother Patrekur 14 years old and 3 sisters, Karen 25 years old, Guðrún 11 years old and Auður 3 years old.
My main hobby is football and i play with Sindri. I want to use football to help with my education in the future by getting a scholarship in the US. My other hobbies are to hang out with my friends and just chill. This summer I worked at a construction company called Áhaldahúsið. I chose this class is because I am very interested in what we will be doing and also that we get to go to another country.
I care about the environment and the global warming really effects our country and especially us here in Höfn because of the glacier (Vatnajökull) which has been melting and getting smaller in recent years. I think we can all do better with recycling and to decrease the usage of cars and public transport that is not eco free.
Stígur Aðalsteinsson
My name is Stígur Aðalsteinsson and I am 16 years old. I live with my mom and dad in the countryside seven kilometers just outside of Höfn. I am only child. We have many animals, one dog, to cats, six chickens and eight sheep. My mom’s name is Hildur, and she works as the assistant headmaster at my school. My father’s name is Aðalsteinn, and he works as a carpenter.
My main hobby is football. We have training 5 days of the week, but I try to train every day. When I am not playing football, I usually watch TV or spend time with my friends. I like to play board games and at the moment I am playing a game called Risk.
My plan for the future is to become a professional footballer. If that plan doesn’t work out, I want to go to university hopefully abroad and study Sport Science.
Žarko Živković
My name is Žarko Živković and I am 17 years old. I was born in a city in Croatia called Sisak on the 4th of September 2004 and lived in a town called Dvor. I moved to Iceland on the 5th of January 2017 with my parents and older brother, we now live in a small town called Höfn in the Southeast of Iceland.
My hobbies are playing video games, swimming, snowboarding (I am still learning do) and fishing, but to be honest, anything related to do with water I am in for.
I can speak three languages which are Serbo-Croatian, English, and Icelandic, but I am also learning German.
I chose this class mostly to have fun, chill and to see some new places.
Tómas Nói Hauksson
Hæhæ!
My name is Tómas Nói and I’m from Iceland. I am 17 years old, and I live with my family. My parents work for the glacier company, Glacier Adventure, but my mom specializes in teaching for the winter. We all live in a small town called Höfn í Hornafirði in Iceland. Their names are a little harder to pronounce if you are not Icelandic, my dad ‘s name is Haukur Ingi, my mom is Berglind, my younger sister is Arney and my little brother is Steinþór. I am simply called Thomas.
I go to the local high school, FAS. It’s nice because I’m studying a lot of things I want to do in the future, such as filmmaking and photography. One of my favourite things to do is watching movies and talk about them. I’m hoping to get more involved with the film industry so I’m planning to make a little film, while visiting Finnland.
So, since my family is running the Glacier Adventure business, I have gotten to spend a lot of time on the glacier. My experience on the glacier has been really fun and exciting. My hopes are that people in the future also get to experience this beauty. Sadly, because of global warming the glacier is shrinking. The name of the biggest glacier in Iceland is Vatnajökull, and it’s the biggest glacier in all Europe!
Selma Ýr Ívarsdóttir
Hi. My name is Selma Ýr and I am 17 years old. I live in Höfn, a small town in Iceland, with my mom, my dad, my older sister, and my younger brother. My sister has a dog named Þoka. She is a husky and is one year old.
I like to read books, draw, and paint. I also like sewing and I am interested in learning new languages. I used to practice track and field and I loved it, but I have been on a break from that for a while now.
I don´t know exactly what I want to do in the future, but I would like to try and live in another country for some time because I want to try something new and see how my life could be outside of Iceland. Especially because I am interested in learning new languages. I like writing stories and one day I want to write a book. I am also interested in acting.
Anna Lára Grétarsdóttir
My name is Anna Lára Grétarsdóttir and I am 16 years old. I live in Höfn with my parents; my father is Grétar Már, a 48-year-old police officer and my mother is Nanna Dóra, a 47-year-old teacher and my little sister Þorgerður, who is 13 years old. I have two older siblings: Þorkell Ragnar, 24 years old, and Ingunn Ósk, 19 years old. During the summer, I work at my grandparents’ potato-and-sheep farm Akurnes. During the winter, I attend the local high school, FAS.
I have played football for 10 years with my local team UMF Sindri. I have taken piano lessons for six years and I finished a grade 5 exam in music theory this spring. I have a very big family and I love spending time with them as well as meeting up with my friends. I also love hiking, reading, going to the gym, and listening to music.
I am not sure of what I want to do in the future, but I am interested in science, especially biology, so I will probably study something related to that. For university, I would like to get a scholarship and go to the USA to study and play football. I am looking forward to learning more about Finland and Norway and I can’t wait to meet you all!
