Evaluation of the week in Norway

The last day in Brønnøysund the groups were asked to evaluate the week in Norway. After a talk for the groups presented their results. Sometimes the answers were very similar.

What have we learned:

Culturally?

  • We have learned that Norway and Iceland are very similar regarding plastic pollution. The lifestyle in Finland and Norway is very similar too, we eat the same animals.
  • We have learnt about our different cultures in Norway, Iceland, and Finland.
  • Norway and Finland have same traditions, but Iceland has weird traditions.
  • Even though we don’t speak the same languages we found similarities.
  • Icelandic and Norwegian are quite similar and so is the weather. Finnish people love licoricey (and Icelandic people too)
  • Interesting similarities, but also some differences.

Socially?

  • Norwegians are good midway point, since they know how to have conversations, unlike the Finns, and know when to be quiet, unlike the Islandic people.
  • We have learnt that Icelandic people are extroverted and easy to talk to. The Finnish people are more chill and a little more introverted than the Icelandic ones.
  • The Icelandic people are more outgoing than the Finish people. We have also experienced that the Norwegians are more careful with money.
  • Icelandic people are very outgoing, Norwegian people moderately social, and Finnish people are, well Finnish people.
  • Icelandic people talk a lot, Finnish people do not, Norwegians are in the middle.
  • Connected to many people and created a network that spans across Scandinavia.

Geographically?

  • Norway and Iceland have mountains, and Finland doesn’t have any mountains. Finland has a lot of trees, lakes, and swamp.
  • Iceland doesn’t have as many trees as are in Finland and Norway. In Finland they don’t have as many mountains because the country is very flat.
  • Norway and Iceland have more wind and rain than Finland. Finland also has a lot less mountains than the rest.
  • Finland has lakes and forests, Norway has mountains and fjords, Iceland has volcanos and glaciers.
  • We learned where Brønnøysund is and how there are many inhabited islands. How Icelandic landscapes are like Norway.

Communicational?

  • We learned that Finnish is very hard to understand, then Icelandic and Norwegian. Icelanders can understand a little Norwegian.
  • Icelandic is basically complicated Norwegian, so they understand much Norwegian. Finnish just don’t make sense.
  • Norwegian people had the best language skills, but we all improved.
  • Icelandic people talk a lot, Finnish people do not, Norwegians are in the middle.
  • Everyone has learned parts of each other’s languages.

Better language skills?

  • Finnish accents make them a bit harder to understand, Icelandic accent is non-existent. Norwegian is just Danish but with few letters taken out of the words.
  • In the start it was a bit hard and weird to suddenly talk English all the time because were not used to it. After a while we got more comfortable and better at speaking English with each other.
  • Yes, mainly English.

Connected to the topic of the project? Goal 14

  • We have learned how much plastic goes into the ocean, and what we should do with it.
  • Majority of Finnish people don’t live next to the sea, unlike Norwegians or Icelanders so they don’t pollute that much in the ocean. Norway has lots of fish farms, which can be good and bad.
  • We share the same problems.
  • We picked up trash from the ocean and looked at fish-farms.
  • Mostly from the sea farm and the beach cleaning. Learned about how ecosystems work.

Something else?

  • In the start it was a bit hard and weird to suddenly talk English all the time because were not used to it. After a while we got more comfortable and better at speaking English with each other.
  • We are all going to miss each other.

What can you use the knowledge you have gained in this project for the future?

  • Communicating better with other countries.
  • Being interesting in conversations and have more knowledge to drive towards sustainability.
  • We learned more about other cultures.
  • Watching our carbon footprint and our impact on nature.t

Conclusion

  • This Nordplus project was fun, and we are excited to go to Finland. We have learned a lot and been to many interesting places like Vega, Toft and Torget.
  • We had a lot of fun.
  • We all had a lot of fun, met new people, made new friends,
  • and are looking forward to the next trip.
  • Fun week with amazing activities. Great people with kind hearts. We can’t wait to see each other again.
