The county has about 2500 inhabitants. Most of the people or about 1800 live in the town.\u00a0 About 700 people live on farms or in small populated areas.\u00a0\u200b<\/p>\n<p>The school was founded in 1987 by the state and county and for the first years the school was located in a\u00a0\u00a0building about 7 kilometres from the town. It was there for the first 15 years. \u200b The school moved to the building N\u00fdheimar in the H\u00f6fn\u00a0\u00a0in the autumn of 2002. \u200b The role of the school is first and foremost to offer general book studies, but in addition emphasis is placed on internships in accordance with current demand, adult education and lifelong\u00a0 Lerning.<\/p>\n<p>In FAS you can choose between 6 different fields of study; social sciences, natural sciences, elective program, engineering study, mountaineering course and the horse training course.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>The standard courses consist of Naturale Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Elective programs and engineering studies.\u00a0 In natural science you learn about physics, chemistry, biology and etc. \u200b In humanities and social sciences you learn philosophy psychology etc.\u00a0 In the elective program you get to pick your classes more according to the job you want in the future things like art, sports etc.\u00a0\u00a0\u200bEngineering studies is about working with machines 750 Kw or less .<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1333\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1333\" class=\"wp-image-1333 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/geoheritage.fas.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/fjallamennska-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mountaineering study at FAS. \" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/geoheritage.fas.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/fjallamennska-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/geoheritage.fas.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/fjallamennska-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/geoheritage.fas.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/fjallamennska.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1333\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mountaineering study at FAS.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u200bThe new courses constitutes of Mountaineering and Horse training.\u00a0\u200bMountaineering study is about mountaineering, first aid, cliff and glacier climbing, etc. \u200b Horse training study is about training of horses, ownership, \u00a0and how to make a living from horses.<\/p>\n<p>FAS is school with about 200 students both who attend classes and who take online classes. 60 students attend regulary. The rest are student who attend irregulaly like mauntenering. The students are friendly. We also have a wall with every year graduation.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>Our final exam are spoken face to face with a teacher insted of a writing the exams. Also that is a good way of being close to the glacier free of charge. We also measure a specific grid of trees at the sand Skei\u00f0ar\u00e1ssandur and then we count the trees in the grid. Just about 20 years ago this sand was almost a black desert. In FAS we also have a survey\u00a0where\u00a0count birds and bird\u00a0species.\u200b<\/p>\n<p>FAS regards the participation of students in social life as an important part of organized learning at the school. This is especially true in the key areas of creative thinking, equality and democracy. Social life should be sustainable and democratic, self-evident from students&#8217; interest in the inherent aspects of human life.
